Brussels, BelgiumLive Auction
Description: 1918 Share of 1000 Rbls. red, black. No 500. Small format. Central folds with repaired tears. Also a few repaired edge-splits. Text in Russian. Bank from Kuban, a region of Southern Russia surrounding the Kuban River, on the Black Sea between the Don Steppe, the Volga Delta and the Caucasus. A nominative piece, but no name filled in. One of the last shares issued in Tsarist Russia. The White Army had a stronghold in the south of the country and many businessmen and bankers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev,... had fled to the region hoping for better times to follow soon. This lead even to the foundation of new banks, such as this Kuban-Don Industrial Bank. A year later, the territory was controlled by the Red Army. Hence this might well be the last Russian bank founded before the communist take-over. From an old collection. Rarity 12.
