Description: John Lennon "The Way Things are Going" Oil on Canvas by James Wilkinson. Measuring approx 40x50" this large oil painting depicting a crucified Lennon is Wilkinson's portrayal of the life of Lennon. As he looks at the viewer from the cross Lennon seems to say "I told you so" in relation to the last Beatles No1 song written by Lennon "The Ballad of John & Yoko" The way things are going..., they're gonna crucify me, with connotations to Lennon's Beatles bigger than Christ, misquote, the painting portrays Lennon's life and cohorts such as Hendrix, Brian Jones and Elvis beneath him, stretching back to Liverpool whilst behind his image lies the burning New York Skyline, the very place that he spent his later life campaigning for peace and ironically where he met his brutal and tragic end. With the ground rent in two through his own memorial, the painting throws obvious religious comparisons, with a wry Lennonish overtone. James Wilkinson (1965-) Pop Artist, Artist in Residence, Hylands House, 2009- Official Artist to the V Festival 2012-
