*Bernardo Daddi (active circa 1280-1348) SAINT PAUL gold ground, oil on panel backed with another panel, with an arched top, unframed 29 1/2 by 14in. 74.9 by 35.6cm. We are grateful to Everett Fahy who, on the basis of first hand inspection, has identified the present painting to be a work by Bernardo Daddi. Daddi, one of the most influential Florentine artists of the 14th Century, was a student of Giotto and probably closely associated with the master's workshop. However, unlike Giotto, Daddi preferred to work on a smaller scale and looked to artists such as the St. Cecilia Master and the Master of the St. George Codex, two other Florentine artists active in the first half of the 14th Century.
