Description: 1 July 1852 62 PAS-DE-CALAIS. BOULOGNE s/m. Action de F1000. black. #328. No 289. Decorative border. The company was formed to manufacture wood-and-steel pens, and quickly gained a strong reputation. A Blanzy Poure steel pen was used by President Lincoln to sign the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. Boulogne-Sur-Mer, France, and Birmingham, England, were the principal centers worldwide for the manufacture of steel pens. The steel pen was known to the Romans - one was found at Pompeii and is now in the Naples museum. Only two pieces known to us.
