Description: Book of Maps
"A New Sett of Maps Both of Antient and Present Geography, Wherein Not Only the Latitude and Longitude of Many Places are Corrected, According to the Latest Observations... Together with a Geographical Treatise Particularly Adapted to the Use and Design of These Maps". By Edward Wells, M.A. and Student of Christ-Church, Oxon. Printed by T.W. for R. Bonwicke, J. Walthoe, R. Wilkin, and T. Ward, London, N.D. (1700). Bound in paper-covered boards with replaced leather spine with six raised bands. Folio. Forty-one double page maps complete. Maps are hand numbered in upper inside corners on reverse of maps. Maps 14 and 41 have old professional repairs of small closed tears. Map 37 has a missing strip at bottom left edge of margin 3" high and tapering to 1/2" wide, not affecting image or border. Map 41 has a loose vertical wrinkle on right side from top to bottom. Paper is toned and a few maps have minor foxing. Very good condition. A wonderful example of a striking set of maps. From the Collection of General W.H. Vanderlinden, Jr., late of Hickory, North Carolina.
