Elle est ornée de 3 planches gravées en taille-douce par Pouncy.
Marc Théodore Bourrit (Genève 1739 - Lancey 1819), voyageur, écrivain spécialiste de l'histoire suisse, mais aussi peintre et graveur, est considéré comme l'un pionnier de l'exploration des Alpes et de l'alpinisme, aux côtés d'Horace-Bénédict de Saussure et de Jean André Deluc.
Disposant de moyens financiers bien moindres que ces derniers, son talent de peintre lui permit cependant de composer et d'illustrer des ouvrages de grande qualité.
En 1775, il réalisa l'ascension du mont Buet (3096 m) par la Pierre à Bérard (Vallorcine), mais ne parvint jamais à achever celle du Mont Blanc, qu'il entreprit à plusieurs reprises en compagnie de Michel Paccard ou d'H.
