Description: Group of 44 Civil War views, including a photograph of Brady at Gettysburg, photographs of Belle Plain prisoners in the "Punch Bowl," group photographs of infantry in their Winter quarters, on parade, and in camp, munitions and supplies, naval officers, ports, pontoon bridges, fortifications, bridges, and much more. Albumen prints, 6 1/4x8 1/4 inches (15.9x21 cm.) and slightly smaller, most with captions in an unidentified hand, in pencil, on mount verso, some with a printed list of the photographer's available views. 1861-65
Notes: This group was acquired by the owner from descendants of Andrew Boyd, an avid collector of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia in the late 19th century. Many of the photographs reference "Handy" in a later hand. Levin C. Handy was Mathew Brady's nephew and he inherited what was left of Brady's negatives after E. & H. T. Anthony took the majority as payment for a debt. It is possible that this group was acquired by Boyd from the Handy family.
