More About this Item

Description: 1905 59 NORD. CUINCY. Action Priviliégiée de F100. red. No 744. One small edge-split (repaired) and a little very faint foxing. Formed Douai, 1904. Decorative piece, with the familiar theme of a king drinking beer, and a fine border of barrels, and, perhaps strangely for a brewery, vines with bunches of grapes. Cuincy is a small town on the edge of Douai. The brewery was established in a former sugar-beet storage building, and functioned until 1914. The manager was then drafted into the army, and the brewery closed, never to reopen. The building is now part of a metal-working factory.
