British Proofed and Engraved Colt Brevete Model 1851 Navy Revolver

This is an almost identical copy of the Colt Model 1851 Navy and features a broad floral scroll engraving on the barrel, frame, cylinder, backstrap, with a simple geometric pattern on the loading lever. British proofs are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug and alternating on the cylinder. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT" and the left side trigger guard shoulder is marked "35 CAL". Iron trigger guard and backstrap and fitted with two piece walnut grips. This gun was made by one of the makers licensed by Colt to make his revolvers in Europe. This is probably the reason for the Colt's patent markings to be in English rather than the "Colt's Brevete" French form found on other, less exact copies.
