BRONZE PLAQUE - 'The Lion of Belfort' by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty, this being a representation of the enormous carved lion installed by him at Belfort to commemorate the defense of the city during the Franco Prussian War of 1870-71, also cast in bronze and placed in Paris and Montreal from the Atelier Mesurer et Monduit Fils, edge marked bronze and with triangular foundry mark, signed A. Bartholdi, 2 3/8" x 3 7/8", fine condition, warm buttery patina. Bartholdi himself served as an officer in this conflict.
