Container with a cylindrical body and matching cover
The wall decorated with archaic elements such as horned taotie masks in relief
Horseshoe shaped handle, attached on the sides and ending in heads of mystical beasts
The surface partly with a malachite green patina
Height without handle: c. 30 cm
Good condition consistent with age
A very similar bronze vessel YOU is in the collection of the Shanghai Museum. It was part of the exhibition “Treasures from Shanghai. Ancient Chinese Bronzes and Jades“ in the British Museum, London, 2009. Cf. Rawson (ed.), Treasures from Shanghai, exhib.cat., London 2009. The container is in good condition with wear consistent with age such as minimal loss of material here and there. The height without handle is c. 30 cm.
