Description: 5th-7th century AD. A bronze steelyard arm with conical knop finials, lozengiform in section with calibration marks to three faces, square-section end with a slot for the pointer and another for the suspension hook; pointillé text beside the pointer slot '+AC[...]POY' and to the upper end 'AB?PKIOY'. Cf. a similar steelyard is in the collection of Harvard College, USA, accession number: 2007.104.3.A-C. 198 grams, 31cm (12 1/4"). Property of a Surrey collector; acquired in the early 1970s.
