Description: 14th-15th century AD. A bronze rectangular case with hinged lid and sliding hook fastener, containing a small folding balance arm with open suspension fame and pointer, two discoid pans restrung with thread; the underside of the case with running guilloches on a hatched field, the lid with two facing nimbate saints between decorated columns and pointillé ornament. 104 grams total, case: 63mm (2 1/2"). Property of a Scandinavian collector; acquired on the European art market.
