In den 1910er Jahren nahm Alice Bailly an namhaften Ausstellungen teil. Das Musée cantonale des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne widmete dieser bedeutenden Schweizer Künstlerin im Herbst 2005 eine umfassende Retrospektive, in der auch das vorliegende Hauptwerk ausgestellt war. Das Gemälde zeigt eine enge Verbindung mit der Formensprache des Kubismus, den die Malerin vor dem ersten Weltkrieg in Paris kennen gelernt hatte.
