Description: 5 November 1901 PARIS. 3% Obligation de F500. green. #178000. No 13171. Folds and small hole in the center. Also some pin-holes and trimmed bottom. The company was formed in Paris, 1910, to build a meter-gauge line from the Indochinese town of Lao-Cai to Yunnan-Fou (today's Kunming). Constructions took 9 years, with vast numbers oftunnels, bridges and viaducts, and was extremely expensive, in money and human life. Inaugurated 1910, and carried, not only passengers, but tin, copper and hardwoods to the port of Haiphong, for export to France. Maintenance was very costly, and the line was never profitable, needing constant subsidies to survive. The line still exists, but passenger services ended in 2000, and it is now used for freight only. It now forms part of a Singapore-Kunming line, opened in 2015. Attractive and ornate border of Chinese dragons. See also lot 235.
