Description: 8 October 1846 PARIS. Action de F500. black, buff. #6000. No 3556. Folds and one tiny hole. The company was formed in 1844, at a time of great expansion of the French railway system. Sceaux (now a southern suburb of Paris) was then out in the country, and popular for excursions. The original line ran from Paris-Barrière-d'Enfer (now Denfert-Rochereau) 12km to Sceaux-Robinson. It used a very wide gauge (1.76m), and articulated carriages (named 'Arnoux'). In 1856 the company opened a second line, to Orsay. In 1857 the lines were acquired by the CdF d'Orléans. The line was relaid, to standard gauge in 1893. After electrification in 1938, became part of the Paris métro. Most attractive share, with vignettes of the trains winding their way through the mountains and mediaeval castles of southern Paris, and in Sceaux.
