Description: CARVED WALRUS IVORY FIGURE ON BALEEN BASE - pre-ban 1972 - Depicts a folkloric figure with a warped face staring forward. The walrus ivory has tufts of animal hair (most likely walrus) in its mouth and outstretched hand. This piece is signed on the back of the polished baleen slab by Yupik tribe member Denny Akeya from Savoonga, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. There is a slight hairline crack running along the side of the ivory figure. Measures 5.25"L x 3.75"W on the baleen base and 2.5"L x 1.75"W on the ivory figure
