Description: a Friderico Rege Boemiae, Electore Palatino Heidelbergae Exstructu , engraved title in architectural border with allegorical figures, 28 numbered engraved plates only, of 30, 1 folding & 1 double-page, lacking nos. 2 and 27, the latter replaced by 3 mounted engravings of fountains from another work, plate 1 defective, with loss of c. 8 x 15 cm, and restored, edges trimmed with loss, nos. 13, 25 & 29 with tears, the first 2 repaired, nos 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29 fore-edges trimmed with loss to engraved area, 14 & 15 with loss of plate numbers, 14 also with hole to blank area of engraving, lower outer corner frayed & worn throughout, just touching title border, lower margins of title and 3 text ff. repaired on verso, few minor marginal tears, stained and marked, contemporary vellum, worn and stained, corners and lower edge of upper cover damaged, [Hunt 204], folio, Franckfurt, Theodore de Bry , 1620. Sadly defective copy of a splendid, and extremely rare, pictorial record of the legendary gardens designed but never fully completed by de Caus for the Elector at Heidelberg. Only three copies have appeared at auction since the Second World War.
