Description: 2nd-1st century BC. An iron dagger with triangular blade, rounded shoulder, iron rivets to attach an organic hilt, in a sheet bronze scabbard with butted edges to the reverse, rivet holes below the mouth to fix an organic lining; incised bands of hatched transverse lines with hatched vandykes below. Cf. Stead, I. & Rigby, V. The Morel Collection. Iron Age Antiquities from Champagne in the British Museum, London, 1999, item 2601 for dagger type. 347 grams, 33.5cm (13 1/4"). Property of a German gentleman; acquired 1980-1990.
