Pre-Columbian, Chancay, modern day Peru, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A standing pottery figure, with huge eyes and sharp nose, and exaggerated facial features over a small torso with very long legs. Small holes have been drilled through the ears which were probably once decorated with metal rings. Chancay ceramics have been found mainly in the cemeteries of the Ancon and Chancay valleys; this pottery seems to have been produced on a large scale using molds and created specifically for funerary purposes. Size: 2.75" W x 6.7" H (7 cm x 17 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Peter Arnovock collection
