Chanuka Menorah. Miniature. Hallmarked "N", with additional markings. Human and animal figures.
Cut-out and repousse. Undressed human images, various lions. Small shield at center with governmental motifs, reminiscent of 18th century Germany. Shield supported by a mermaid and two lions. The top of the backplate features a coat-of-arms of a city or cardinal in Germany. Very possibly made earlier than the 18th century.
The bottom section with the eight oil beakers and the small 'shamash' are connected with a metal thread. Missing the original reinforcements. Fine condition.
Height: 7.5 cm. Width: 8 cm. Depth: 2 cm.
Refer to the catalogue of the Stieglitz Collection, Jerusalem 1987. Israel Museum. Item 125.1, where the menorah is attributed to 16th century, Italy. There with a coat-of-arms of an Italian cardinal from 1561.
