CATALOGUE NOTE
The central vessel in this composition is an English two-decker of 40 guns, shown broadside on. From the right, seen port bow on, is another British Man of War, a three-decker of 90 guns. Both vessels are under full sail with the exception of their fore-topsails. An English Royal Yacht, ketch rigged, is seen between the two warships sailing to the right. An English lugger fishing boat lies in the right foreground, dowsing her sails.
The composition is similar to the engraving after Brooking entitled Morning and published by Boydell in 1753 (see Joel, op.cit., no.603)
