Notes: Only known copy of this photograph in this size. Printed on the image is number 58, which corresponds to the catalogue number in A Photographic Scramble through Spain. This photograph conserves the black margins left around the image when making the contact print. Its size is larger than the ones usually commercialized. Charles Clifford draws attention to this photograph with the following description found in the catalogue: “Avila as seen from the Railway. A very interesting and imposing specimen of the severe old Castillian cities. Its ancient walls are in a good state of preservation.
