Description: Tesoro del Delfín, Jarro, 1863

Notes: Only known version of this photograph. The photograph is masked and developed against a white background. The majority of the photographs of the Tesoro del Delfín were commercialized with a black background and, in the majority of cases, cropped in order to centre on the object, see image reproduced above, which is conserved in the Museum of the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona. The image is reframed like most of the photographs this series. This photograph conserves the black margins left around the image when making the contact print. Authorship of the Tesoro del Delfín series has been attributed to Jane Clifford, wife and collaborator of Charles Clifford. She took these photographs shortly after the death of Clifford, on commission to the South Kensington ( Victoria and Albert Museum) in London. Jane Clifford continued to work in the studio for the first half of the 1860’s using Charles Clifford’s signature and stamp.
