Artist or Maker: WANG Xinggang (Chinese, b. 1970)
Literature: Chinese sculptor Wang Xinggang is a master at capturing the exhilaration and strength of movement in his signature resin, bronze or stainless steel works. Wang has created numbers of series over the years. His works are mostly inspired and motivated by his real life experience. In my "Chasing" series, the dominant role is human beings, their convergent movements reflecting the tendency of Chinese society. But in my recent works, human beings are less dominant, despite their new formed relationship with the material world: they have become a derivative of symbols; people are derived from all kinds of symbols from the media. Those mobile phones, computers and billboards, gather with the signs and codes which come out from them, surrounding people and overwhelming them. People are like leaves flickering on a fictitious tree growing in the information society, they become far away from the real soil, i.e. the real world, and eventually they don't know where they are.
