Description: (CHINA.) Gutzlaff, Charles. A General Map of China Chinese-Tartary & Tibet drawn from the Particular Maps of the Jesuits. Folding lithographed map of the Chinese Empire and Korea. 19x28 1/2 inches sheet size; closed tear at mounting tab, slight browning at folds, few minor edge tears. New York: John P. Haven, 1834

Notes: Geography is entirely borrowed from Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d''Anville''s map of the region from a century earlier. Interestingly, this map was lithographed by the famous Nathaniel Currier, and is an example of some of his earliest work.
