China: Views of landscapes, cities and people
A private German collection with views of China from the time of the Boxer Revolt. Circa 1900. 31 prints (including 20 collodion prints, 10 gelatin silver prints and 1 platinum print) in various sizes, between circa 17 x 23 cm and 21 x 27 cm. Mounted to board (slightly soiled, edges time-stained, traces of use), some annotated in pencil on the verso.
An fine collection of prints showing several monuments and landscapes of China, also including the palace and interior views of the German governor's residence in Tsingtau (?) and some other houses and private rooms of high ranking German officers. Other images show the Great Wall, business activities and street life in and around Peking as well as the MS Admiral Tirpitz in Tsingtau harbor and decapitated revolters in an unknown location. - Only the gelatin silver prints slightly faded in margins, the collodion prints in excellent condition.
