Description: CHINESE EXPORT ARMORIAL CHARGER WITH JOHN ELWICK COAT OF ARMS, 18th century
decorated with an Asian landscape in grisaille and with superimposed enamel and gilt coat of arms; the rim with black and gold brocade and grisaille cartouche border; diameter: 13 3/4 in.

Provenance: Property of a Boston Family

Literature: A similar plate in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York collection, is illustrated and discussed in, Claire Le Corbeiller, China Trade Porcelain: Patterns of Exchange, Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1974, plate 22

Other Notes: John Elwick (d. 1730) was a director of the English East India Company
