Chinese Yu Wenxiang Snow Scene Vase:
The baluster vessel having angled shoulder, with waisted body to splayed foot base. Prominent cylindrical neck to banded rim. The exterior decorated with scenes of a humble village within waterside and a snow covered mountainous landscape with villagers leaving foot prints as they walk toward their homes. The other side of the vase depicts calligraphy and the artist's marks. The top border features scholar's items in reserves on a diapered background. Various different markings on the bottom.
Yu Wenxiang (1910-1993) was born in October of 1910. He began to learn his art at the age of 8. He was recommended to Mr He Xuren to learn to draw snow scenes. He laid a foundation for snow scene painting over 6 years of hard work. He was one of the first in a group of "Masters of Porcelain Fine Arts." He was a member of the China Artists Association and of the China Industrial Fine Arts Society.
