CHIPPENDALE BOWFRONT DESK-AND-BOOKCASE.
Probably Connecticut or Massachusetts, 3rd quarter-18th century, cherry and pine. Two piece, the upper section with a broken-arch pediment and carved rosettes and with two raised-panel doors; the lower bowfront section with four drawers and ogee bracket feet. The interior has pinwheel-carved drawers and pigeonholes. Minor imperfections. 92.5"h. 42"w. 24"d., writing surface is 30.5"h.
Older refinish with rich color, some glue blocks replaced, replaced lid hinges, replaced brasses in later holes. Replaced finial columns, hinges have been partially broken out and repaired on the top along with pieced repairs where old hinges were, replaced hinges/hardware. The top has an approx. 1 1/2" x 1" pieced repair at bottom rear corner. The base has multiple areas where there have been splits in the wood and they have been repaired. The base has an approx. 2 1/2" x 3/4" pieced repair on side.
