Chicago, IL, USALive Auction
Description: This is a Hen Merganser duck decoy from Chincoteague Island, probably made by Cigar Daisy made in the form that Miles Hancock would have made. This decoy came out of the Refuge Water Museum on Chincoteague Island. Cigar Daisy was the resident carver. John Maddox started the museum in 1978 as a tribute to waterfowll hunting on the Eastern shore. Both lots 4 and 5 were purchased at the auction held at the Museum a few years back. So these decoys did reside in the Museum. After Mr. Maddox passed away (he ran the museum) the family sold at auction most of the items that were withinthe museum. This decoy has most of its original paint and overall pretty nice, sporting tack eyes. Possibly made from telephone pole. 15 3/4" long 5 1/4" wide by 6" tall. One piece not hollow.
Dimensions: 15 3/4" X 5 1/4" X 6"
Artist or Maker: Digar Daisy
