Description: CLEMENTINE REUBEN HUNTER
(american 1886-1988)
BIRDS
Ca. late 1970s. Signed with conjoined initials bottom right, oil on canvas board
8 x 10 in. (20.3 x 25.4cm)
provenance:
Neal Auction Company, New Orleans, sale of June 9 and 10, 2007, lot 543.
note:
The present lot will be accompanied by a photograph of the artist holding this painting. Additionally, we are grateful to Mr. Thomas Whitehead for his assistance in confirming the authenticity of this work.

Condition Report: Frame: 15 1/4 x 19 1/8 x 3/4 in.
With minor surface soiling present throughout and some to wear to the extreme edges, especially each of the 4 corners. Pencil marks are evident beneath the thinly applied paint, though this is original to the working method of the artist.
The board previously glued to its support but has since been detatched and is loose in its frame. There is glue residue present variously along the edges verso. Additionally there are areas where the glue has ripped off and has taken with it the top layers of the paper backing which covers the back of the artist's board. This is more visible in the left hand corner (1/2 inch circular area) and along the right horizontal edge (1 x 1 1/2 inch long area towards right corner).
Verso, inscribed 'Yellow' along the top horizontal edge, 'Jackie Hink 346-68711' on right vertical edge and 'Booras' along left vertical edge.
Overall in good original condition.

Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid. All transactions are governed by Freeman's Conditions of Sale.
