(american 1886-1988)
LADY WITH UMBRELLA
Signed with conjoined initials upper right, oil on canvas
9 x 12 in. (22.9 x 30.5cm)
provenance:
Charleston Art Auction, Charleston, South Carolina, sale of November 3, 2007, lot 53.
note:
We are grateful to Mr. Thomas Whitehead for his assistance in confirming the authenticity of this work.

Condition Report: Frame: 14 1/8 x 17 x 1 1/4 in.
Please note, the back is covered and therefore not examined.
With minor wear to extreme edges and rubbing to surface consistent with contact with frame- this is evident around perimeter of the front of the canvas, approx 1 cm from the edge all around. With various areas of paint loss- for example, this is most evident in approx 8 areas where paint is minorly chipped the sky area, (varying in size though approx 1/4 in.) and at all four corners. There are two 1/8 in. small chips in the orange of the umbrella. With minor surface soiling present throughout, especially at the extreme edges of the canvas, though most pronounced in middle of the right hand vertical edge in the form of a faint brown smudge/smear. There is also a light brown line that begins above the signature in a more circular shape/ smudge, and narrows and appears more concentrated as it extends downwards through the horizontal bar of the H. There is a faint 2 1/2 light brown vertical line in the yellow to the left of the pink mug- this is not obtrusive.
