Description: Ojime, ivory. Japan, Meiji, (1868 – 1912)

A very small monkey, as cord fastener ojime between an inro or something similar, possibly serving as a netsuke and apparently climbing up both cords. Presumably the netsuke was also a monkey to ensure agreement in the motifs. Animated depiction of the animal; compact, lively carving of fur.
HEIGHT 3,4 CM
From an old German collection
