Description: Cockerell (Sir Sidney C.) Fourteen autograph letters signed to Laurence W. Hodson, written as secretary to the Kelmscott Press, 20pp., 8vo, on headed Kelmscott Press or Kelmscott House paper, 1896-1898, one with lengthy information about the unavailability of the Kelmscott Press type, the work of the press, ". it had its technical blemishes - & its excellence was due entirely to W.M's sense of what it ought to be, & not in any large degree to the workmen employed, except in so far as they were following his instructions."; the others discussing the map in "The Sundering Flood" [see lot 61], publications of the press, the availability of copies on vellum and trial sheets, Hodson's purchase of a vellum copy of the Chaucer, and Cobden-Sanderson's binding for it, an exhibition put on by Hodson which included some Morris's designs, lengthy advice on Hodson's own specimens of calligraphy and suitable materials for his use, proofs of the 87 illustrations to the Chaucer ".done for the last A&C exhibit. but E B-J objected to their being shown on the ground that it took away from the freshness of the book if all the pictures could be seen at once.", and the book labels for Hodson, one of the last things printed at the press, folded, one with envelope with further information written on flap.
