Description: New York Currency
September 6, 1790 "Reformed Dutch Church at Schenectady" One Penny with RED Printed Face
September 6, 1790. New York. "Reformed Dutch Church at Schenectady" One Penny. RED Printed Face "Church Money" Issue. Conservation. Very Fine.
This exceedingly rare upstate New York, typeset, One Penny note is printed in RED on its face and black on its reverse. It measures 3.25" x 2.25" and reads: "The Consistory of the Reformed Dutch Church, at Schenectady, promise to pay the Bearer, on demand, One Penny. By order" and is Hand-Signed by Dominie Dirck Romeyn. Printed by C & G Webster, Albany. Conservation to deft sealed edge splits, chips, and the vertical centerfold. The RED face appears clean and sharp in detail. The deep black printed reverse side is quite bold. This issue is found listed in the 5th edition of Newman on page 308. A great rarity, specially in such attractive quality, that is lacking from most Colonial Currency or New York paper money collections. An important RED Printed Face "Church Money" Issue.
