Description: CONDER, JOSIAH. Flowers of Japan and the Art of Floral Arrangement, with Illustrations by Japanese Artists. 54 plates (14 in color) after Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Kawanabe Kiosui, and others. Small folio, 14x10 1/2 inches, publisher''s stitched pictorial wrappers, covers bit worn and soiled, lower silk tie perished; plates generally clean, few with faint dampstain. Tokyo: The Hakubunsha, 1892

Notes: One of the earliest illustrated works on the art of Japanese Ikebana, or flower arranging. Conder, who served as official architect to the Imperial Japanese Government, published a brief paper on the subject in the Transactions of the Asiatic Society of Japan in 1889, prompting this fuller illustrated monograph.
