Highly regarded as a skilled genre painter, Bega excelled in depicting carousing and merrymaking peasants in interiors and taverns, market scenes with quack doctors, astrologers, alchemists, amorous couples, smokers, gamblers and other fanciful figures. He was also an accomplished etcher and draftsman.
The relined canvas in generally good overall condition, with the surface having a varnish as seen under u.v. light. Apart from some minor retouching to part of seated man holding tankard and additional minor retouching, including a small area in background at upper center right, vast majority of the canvas appears to be unrestored.
