Lot 134: Cows in wide landscape in France; 1889
November 23, 2016
Vienna, Vienna, AustriaLive Auction
Description: Eugen Jettel studied landscape painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna until 1868. His fellow students from the landscape class of Albert Zimmermann were Emil Jakob Schindler; Robert Russ; Rudolf Ribarz and Adolf Ditscheiner - they all became leading painters of socalled moodimpressionism. The 30-year-old artist moved to Paris; where he enjoyed a successful career and was the focus of a circle of Austrian and German artists; thanks to a good offer from the art dealer Charles Sedelmeyers - to whom he left all the paintings for a monthly flatrate. He also had good contacts with the French colleagues and found a connection to Barbizon's school. Starting from 1870; the representations of the flat land under high heaven became his main motive; for which the present work is an excellent example. His fine nuanced descriptions became more and more lighter with the years; with ever more dry paint application. oil on canvas signed and dated lower right 20;1 x 14;2 inch; lent frame: 350;-
