This fine print has a doubly distinguished provenance. It was originally in the collection of John Dunbar, a Scot whose exceptional collection of calotypes by Hill & Adamson, preserved for their interest as documents on the history of costume, was offered for sale in three parts, Sotheby's Belgravia, London, between May 1973 and March 1974. It was acquired by Robert Mapplethorpe and was purchased by Paul F. Walter at the dispersal of photographs from the collection of Robert Mapplethorpe.
