This deluxe Winchester M1886 Fancy Sporting Rifle was manufactured in 1887. The rifle has a blued octagon barrel with full-length magazine. The forearm cap, frame, hammer, loading lever and crescent buttplate have the "special order "Extra Finished" color-case hardened finish with vivid case colors. The rifle has a special order, deluxe, highly figured, pistol grip stock with fine checkering on the forearm and pistol grip. The pistol grip has a ebony inlay. The barrel is fitted with a special order, dove-tail front sight with colored bead and a Lyman folding combination rear sight on the upper tang. The rear sight dove-tail on the barrel is fitted with a factory blank. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "-MANFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight dove-tail and the caliber designation "40-65 W.C.F." behind it. The lower tang is roll-stamped: "-PAT.OCT.14.1884/JAN. 20. 1885-" in two lines behind the trigger and engraved with the serial number "7584".
