Views of Rostock and surroundings. 1860s. 15 albumen prints (6 oval, 3 with rounded corners). Various sizes between circa 15 x 20 cm and 20 x 26 cm. Apart from 1, each mounted to board/behind mat (soiled and time-stained), 4 with photographer's blindstamp under the image on the mat and 1 with photographer's stamp M. Ballerstaedt below the image on the mount.
The German lithographer F.H. Dethleff, who was based in Rostock, began to photograph as of 1850. In 1862 his work was exhibited in London for which he received an honorable mention. - Some surface scuffing, Rostock harbor view with small glued tear in upper left, otherwise in good to very good condition and most with strong contrasts.
