Description: This decoy was made for and by Don Gearhart. Mr Gearhart became the President of Sinclair Oil. He lived in Oklahoma and Traveled to Texas and Louisianna for business starting in the 1930's. Some of his decoys have dates carved into the bottom. This decoy could be circa 1940's. Mr. Gearhart made his own personal rig of decoys to hunt over. On business trips he would take his decoy rig and hunt over them. He was known to hunt in Louisianna and elsewhere. These decoys are diminutive in size (about life size) which made them easier to take on trips. Mr. Gearhart was an engineer and designed an ingenious keel that kept the weights. This is the original keel and weight on this decoy. It is marked in paint on the bottom of the tail "Don. R. Gearhart Tulsa, Okla." Decoy is all original with most of its paint intact but does have some real gunning wear, this bird was used. However, this little decoy is one of the better Drake Blue Wings that this cataloger has seen by Mr. Gearhart. Teal are very collectible and Mr. Gearhart made several blue wing and green wing teal. Overall it is about 9" long, 4" wide and tall. This little gem gives off great vibes and has attitude with a turned head, relief carved raised wings and speculum and painted feathers. They don't get much better. A rare bird indeed!
