Description: The Chinese JiZhou ware is potted with bulbous vessel, heavy to shoulder, tapered gently toward flat base, with narrow and short neck terminating the banded rim. The exterior delicately decorated in sgraffiato, carved on the surface to reveal the lower layer of the vessel before firing, with two meandering phoenix, with stylized floral sprays. The vase coated with a lighter color glaze before it is positioned on the interior of a black glazed vase. The glaze is of a dark brownish olive tone streaking to a creamy coffee brown simulating tixi lacquer and stopping above the concave base exposing the pale buff foot rim in whirlpool foot base.
