Description: Doyle, Arthur Conan. MEMOIRS OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. Harper & Brothers, 1894. 1st American edition. Includes The Card-Board Box (Adventure XIV), which the publisher excluded from the 1st English edition in book form either because it was too racy or too morbid. 26 plates. (The 27th unlisted illustration mentioned by Green and Gibson A14b is probably accounted for by the partial-page illustration on p54). 5 of the illustrations are by Sidney Paget, the other 22 being by W. H. Hyde. 12mo. vi, 281, blank , ads  pp. Light blue cloth decorated in dark blue, with gilt lettering. Top edge stained slate gray, other edges plain. Cloth slightly darkened at extremities and on spine. Some pages lightly dampstained (mostly in margin, but overlapping text near end of volume). Slight internal loosening especially around pp97-98. 1.2 Lb.
