Provenance: James Bourlet & Sons Ltd. label and inventory number bought from the Royal Society of Miniature Painters exhibition (of which Spencelayh was a founder member) circa 1950 in addition ;the artist's label on the reverse of this lot, Spencelayh gives his address as 'St Mildred, Bozeat, Wellingborough, Northants'. The Spencelayh family moved to Bozeat in 1940, when Charles was 75, following the destruction of his previous house, at 14 St. Mildred's Road, Lee, SE12, by the German bombings of London
