Dublin 2, Dublin, Ireland
Description: EAMON DE VALERA An eight page typed letter (carbon copy) to Lord Longford [Frank Pakenham], 25 February 1963, with a further one page letter dated 27 February, each letter with full signature (probably later) and with each page initialled by De Valera, explaining in great detail his reasons for not going to London with the plenipotentiary delegates for the decisive Treaty talks in December 1921. A significant document, even though written 40 years after the event, presumably drafted in the context of Lord Longford's work on the Treaty negotiations. Provenance: Col. Butler, former ADC to De Valera as President.
