Édouard Frédéric Wilhelm Richter (1844-1913) - French painter of Orientalism
Signed ‘E. Richter’ upper right
With an old typographical label on the stretcher, according to which the painting was exhibited on the Paris Salon of 1876
Dimensions: 46.5 x 39 cm
Mounted in gilt historicism frame: 64 x 55.5 cm
Provenance: Private collection, Uruguay

Condition:
The painting has slightly darkened and shows craquelure according to age, as well as rubbing of the paint due to the framing. The inspection under UV light reveals major touch-ups to the head and the figure of the sitter as well as small touch-ups to the lower margins. The frame shows small losses.

Édouard Frédéric Wilhelm Richter (1844-1913)
The painter Édouard Richter, born in Paris, studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris under the guidance of Ernest Hébert and Léon Bonnat. His favorite motifs were portraits and genre scenes. His first exhibition took place in 1866. (cko)
