being Stanton''s patent use number, circa 1884, with octagonal 5 1/2in. barrel, full-length raised sighting rib signed ''EDWD. QUINN & SON, NEWRY'', quick release plain cylinder via a wheel, twin ''Pryse action'' bars to rear of the break-open frame, the left side of frame marked ''JOINT PATENTS, STANTON & CO, 122716'', spurred hammer and guarded trigger, chequered walnut one-piece grip formed with an integral shotgun-style butt-stock with horn pommel cap, iron lanyard ring and heel-plate (the whole darkly stained, grip cracked below top-nail)
Other Notes: Seldom encountered, very little is known about the purpose of these non-detachable stocked revolvers. However the general consensus amongst collectors is that they were used by the Royal Irish Constabulary, although none have been located marked as such.
