Description: EGYPT -- ARNOUX, Hippolyte. 'Bédouine tetoueuse 1391'. Young man having himself tattooed by a Bedouin woman. -- Id. 'Porteuses d'eau portant leur enfent (!)'. -- Id. 'Port Said'. -- Id. 'Saka (porteur d'eau) portant sa guerbe pleine'. -- 4 albumen prints laid down on cardboard, signed in the plate, all c. 273 x 215 mm. -- And 5 similar photographs, possibly by the same, all Egyptian (street) scenes (i.a. an Arab school, camel market, the Sphinx), all similar in size. (All somewhat faded, but in good condition). (9). Hippolyte Arnoux, active 1860-1890, French photographer and publisher. During the 1860's, he documented the excavation of the Suez Canal and published the resulting photographs as Album du Canal de Suez. At the same time, he occasionally worked with the Port Said photographic studio, Adelphoi Zangaki. In the late 1860s, Arnoux was a partner of Antonio Beato.
